1 John 5:20 (KJV 1900): And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
Jesus came to give us an understanding and an appreciation of that invisible God. He gave us an understanding that we may know Him that is true. God is invisible hence you can’t search him out or know Him unless He reveals Himself. That is why God decided to reveal Himself in a man. We are in Him because He made our life His life and we took His life as our life.
We are living in God and living the very life that God would have lived it. This is the mystery of all ages.
In the revelation of the Godhead, which is the manifestation of the full glory of God, the Holy Spirit is the community of the divine. Just as Jesus is the express image of the revelation of God bodily, the Holy Spirit is the final revelation of God. The final expression of the Lordship of God is the Holy Spirit. Hence, the Holy Spirit is Lord. He is called the Spirit of the Lord. When the Holy Spirit is allowed to be Lord, the inhibitions imposed by the flesh is removed for liberty. All the limitations of humanity is removed.
This is what is expressed in the scripture that says though your body is dead, the spirit gives it life through righteousness.
By implication, your body is mortal, and doesn’t carry you anymore, but because you are born of God, you have the DNA of God, the nature and essence of God and you have been given the Holy Spirit to be your life. So the Spirit is your life because of righteousness. The life of the believer is the Holy Spirit. This is why the word communion is very important. It means we share the same life with God.
John 14:16–20 (KJV 1900): And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
John 14:13
John 16:13-
Jesus in His earthly ministry was the comforter or parakletos which means someone called alongside to help you as
- Strengthener
- Intercessor
- Advocate
- Teacher
- Helper
- Comforter
- Standby
Jesus was all these when He was on earth. But now it was time for Him to go back to the Father after completing His work thus making it possible for men to experience the divine – which has always been God’s ultimate plan.
The verse 20 is the climax of Jesus’ work, the journey towards man being in God. This is what is the glorification.
The glorification doesn’t stop at the resurrection but goes beyond to create a realm of existence for the NEW CREATION.
We live in HIM. He is our realm of existence to enjoy the realm of the divine.
This divine experience would be impossible without the ministry of the Holy Spirit. He is the one that makes us experience the divine/eternal life to the maximum. Without Him, we will be Christians alright but would not be able to enjoy what Christ our Testator left for us in His will to enjoy.
Galatians 4:1 (KJV 1900): Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
So Jesus said it was expedient or important that I go so that the Holy Spirit can come and do His work in us and through us.
At this point Jesus was speaking, He had finished His ministry hence anything He would have done beyond that point would have been superfluous or unimportant. The Holy Spirit was now more important.
The Holy Spirit is coming to begin His Ministry because Jesus has finished what He was sent to do.
God needed and had always wanted a man in the Godhead to enhance our Fellowship with God. To do this God the Father brought out of Himself God the son to become a man.
John 1:1–5 (KJV 1900): 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
The word became flesh. God put on flesh and dwelt among men to experience what it feels like to be a man.
John 1:14 (KJV 1900): And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
So the Godhead found a place in Jesus to become a man.
Hebrews 1:3 (KJV 1900): 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
1 Timothy 2:5–6 (KJV 1900): For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Jesus is God but also a man. He is the God-man. So the assignment of Jesus was to become man.
1 Corinthians 15:20–23 (KJV 1900): But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
Christ was a man to put an end to death’s reign as king of men. He is called the firstfruit.
Jesus came to solve the divine problem in man. Thus God wanting you dwell in man and be one with man. But God couldn’t dwell in the fallen man so Christ becoming a man, pulled down this fallen temple in His death to raise another in His resurrection to make it possible for God to dwell in man.
John 2:19–22 (KJV 1900): Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? 21 But he spake of the temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
So when the Holy Spirit came, that was God coming to rest in man.
Paul writing in Ephesians 4:11 said He gave gifts to men talking about the ministry gifts Christ gave to the Church but when David by revelation wrote in Psalm 68:18
Psalm 68:18 (KJV 1900): Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive:
Thou hast received gifts for men;
Yea, for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them.
The Hebrew for the word dwell here means to come to permanently settle or rest. So God came to settle permanently in men as the man Christ Jesus. He is a man today in the Godhead. The descent of the Holy Spirit is to make it possible for the divine to dwell in men. Hence the Holy Spirit lives in the believer forever. This happened when Jesus rose from the dead with a New body. We are His body today because we died with Him and rose with Him in His resurrection.
Jesus came to do things for us and finished it. We now do things but we can’t do it by our strength hence the Holy Spirit does things with us and through us. He doesn’t do things for us.
Because He does things with us, the first most important word when it comes to the Holy Spirit is COMMUNION. He does things with us.
Communion means many things. It means sharing. Sharing because He does things with you and not for you.
It means distributions. There was a community formed in the God head to channel the purposes of God. That community is the Holy Spirit. He communicates the mind and the purpose of the father.
The Holy Spirit lives on earth yet fills all of the heavens. He doesn’t live in heaven but on earth just as Jesus lived on the earth for 33 years.
God has set in place the ministry of the Holy Spirit for your success. You can’t be successful without the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
1 John 5:9
1 John 5:6–12 (KJV 1900): And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
The first word for truth is PROOF.
